Living Sacrifices of Praise to God

Psalms 99:5 – Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his footstool; He is holy.

In Romans 12:1, Paul writes: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship.”

True and proper worship, then, is when we offer our bodies as a living sacrifice… living our lives daily denying ourselves—our lusts and desires—taking up our cross and following Him (Matthew 16:24). As it says in Hebrews 13:15: “Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.” Such worship is “holy and pleasing to God”.

The Worship Ministry at New Life Fellowship (NLF) City Church Bangalore is dedicated to joining along with members of the Church in offering up our lives as living sacrifices of praise to God, which is our act of worship. We don’t believe in just worshiping God on Sunday mornings during the congregational weekly gathering together, but in living every day as an act of worship to our God. The pivotal verse that guides our worship and our lives are the words of Jesus spoken to the Samaritan woman in John 4:24: “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Being a Godly Witness

As with every other ministry at NLF City Church, we are committed to ensuring that our members live lives that are a godly witness to those around them. This means that they must be God-fearing, committed to God, His Son, and the Church, filled with the Holy Spirit, part of a Life Group, and beyond reproach. We choose people for this Ministry after much prayer, depending more on the leading of God than on natural talent. Our Ministers must first be knowledgeable of the Word of God (the Bible) and practising it in their lives daily before they lead others in worship during the congregational meetings. This applies to all our staff, from the technical to those who play instruments or who lead the singing.

Practise to Lead

Before leading the praise and worship on Sunday mornings, the worship team—instrumentalists, singers, and technical team—meet the previous day on Saturday to pray together, worship together, and meditate on the Scripture before practising the songs they would sing the next day. The songs are then carefully chosen and shared with the Pastors for approval before being finalized. We put a lot of time and effort into ensuring our praise and worship on a Sunday morning or indeed any other day reflects the lives we seek to lead before God – one that is characterized by a daily living sacrifice of praise to our God.

Retreats

Every now and again, the Worship team along with their Church leaders head out on a retreat. These times are meant to bring them together as a team, recommit their lives to God, meditate on Scripture, and draw closer to Jesus. These are times of real refreshing that always have a profound impact on our members’ lives and ministry.
